The Apocalypse

by Ben Anthony

/
1.
In the land of exile While in The Spirit, A voice, loud like a trumpet, Called to me "Write here what you see, For it is faithful and true Write, and send it out among the nations To the church, the congregation." In awe, I fell As what was, and is, and is to come Became, before my eyes... Behold, behold the throne! Behold, Him who reigns! "Holy, holy, holy, Is the Lord God Almighty, Who was, and is, and is to come!" Seven seals upon the scroll Fulfillment, writ by His hand Revelation, unrevealed None worthy to unseal- None but the Lamb! Worthy! worthy is He! Worthy is He who was slain, Who purchased us from bondage with his blood, And made of us His kingdom The seals open Come! They ride, given dominion How long? how long, O Lord? The eyes of all wait upon Thee The seals open The Earth groans and shudders Crying as a virgin in travail Heavens receding, unveiling woe Fall on us! Shelter us! Salvation belongs to Him Who reigns, and to the lamb The seals open- The trumpets blow!
2.
The eyes of all... The sun and sky grow dark Grow dim Silence, a curse itself, grows The eyes of all grow dark Grow dim Release us! Set us free How long? How long, O Lord? The eyes of all wait upon thee... Blood poured out like wine Blindly led, and slaughtered Burdened by silence No sign given, no quarter Truth, taken as blasphemy Prophecy held as lies Cleansing as annihilation Justice as inhaled fire If you had known, even now... Release us! Set us free How long? How long, O Lord? The eyes of all wait upon Thee...
3.
He reigns, He reigns! The kingdom comes, Judgement and mercy have met! It has been written, Prepared from the world's foundation... At each turn, I find no relief My hope has vanished, The flood comes swiftly for me... Fall on us! Shelter us! We seek the signs, The power, that we might believe We bear the scar The burden of this great tragedy We seek the end We, who live on numbered days "It has been promised," "Blessed rest from labor..." Fall on us! Shelter us! Overburdened, we are This wrath, we cannot bear Drifting on numbered days Life, a ritual misery A harvest out of season Fall on us! Shelter us! It has been promised Have faith as judgement is passed From our wounds and from the seas, From the rivers, springs and heat From the darkness and the drought As mountains flee and thunder shouts FALL ON US! SHELTER US! "Behold, I come as a thief Blessed are those who keep watch..." Return! Return to me! I have heard your cries, return For judgement is at hand! All that was known Lies in ruins In one moment, Calamity befell Riches and wealth: Ash blown in the wind, Never to return It is done!
4.
HALLELUJAH! Salvation and honor and glory to God! HALLELUJAH! His judgement of the Earth resounds! "Praise our God, All you who serve Him, You who fear Him, Great and small!" HALLELUJAH! The Lord Almighty reigns! Rejoice with gladness, glorify Him! For the wedding feast has come Clothed in white, stand in His light! Behold, He rides: Faithful and True The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords! The war is won forevermore! For a thousand years, reign... The serpent and deceiver loosed, The nations of the Earth deceived Fire from the heavens loosed Liberty at last is freed I see a white throne, A multitude at its feet Life from death, written out Divided at the judgement seat And lo, it comes descending: Blessed city of the blessed The faithful and true united With the Faithful and True The old order has passed away, The heavens and Earth, renewed... In awe, I fell... "Arise, take heart and courage Let these words not be sealed up For the time is soon!" "Yes, I am coming soon..."

about

I was inspired to compose this after hearing Krzysztof Penderecki's 7th symphony: Gates of Jerusalem. I adapted the text from the Book of Revelation from the Bible, tweaking things here and there and occasionally adding a line or two. A few months after completed it i composed New Jerusalem to go along with it, a piece with no text of its own.

There are a few themes that recur throughout, but for the most part The Apocalypse is a collection of individual songs, grouped around the names of the sections: Revelation(A), Longing(B), Tribulation(C), and Return(D).

A very important note: the text isn't sung on the album! It's just the software, with no live vocals- but I'll still include the text for each section.
