Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo Buffalo were a three-piece punk band from my area consisting of Wayne Kerr on bass, Phil McKracken on guitar and vocals, and Ben Dover on drums. The band, who also went by their nickname B8, were known for Phil's iron lungs and wild stage presence, and for putting on high energy shows where everyone was welcome to join in on the fun.
B8 performed together for 5 years, as well as a surprise show on April Fool's Day a few years later when they "interrupted" another band to play a cover of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". They had several original songs, and also did a few other cover songs but never released an EP because, to quote Wayne, "We're too busy gigging for studio time".
Pissing on the Grave of Democracy came out in B8's second year. It had the hallmarks of the band's crowd participation-focused style, as well as a very familiar classical chord progression in the unstoppable motormouth chorus. It was- intentionally- widely misunderstood, but the locals knew the song and would sing along regardless of the punk spirit behind the tune.
Although there was enough interest for B8 to have local success, people in my area just aren't really down with punk. It was at a show where the crowd chanted for Pissing on the Grave of Democracy as the encore that B8 had finally had enough of their biggest hit and quit on the spot. A few months later it came out that the band had, at some point, legally changed their names to their stage names.
As a note, the lyrics aren't sung here, and the vocal melody is carried by an alto saxophone.
lyrics
The politicians were arguing
About immigrants taking jobs,
So I changed the channel
To a different soap opera
My iced latte was getting warm,
And my Doritos tasted stale
So I hopped in my car
To go get a full meal
But the drive-thru was slow,
And my friend wouldn't go
And I wondered, what was the point?
Who cares if it's a free country
If nobody's having fun?
But I love my freedom, and I love my guns
I love skipping school and doing drugs
I know if we came together,
We could change the world!
So let's burn rubber towards a brighter day
Get on board with us or get out the way
We're in pursuit of liberty,
And lots and lots of cash!
All my coworkers were arguing
About who stole their food again,
So I had one last bite,
And I went to clock back in
The shift was lame, and gave me soul pains
But at least I had a hot date
So I got freshened up,
And went out on my way
But the barkeep was slow,
And my date didn't show
And I wondered, what was the point?
Who cares if you're funny and hot,
If you're not getting laid?
But I love my freedom, and I love my guns
I love skipping school and doing drugs
I know if we came together,
We could change the world!
So let's burn rubber towards a brighter day
Get on board with us or get out the way
We're in pursuit of liberty,
And lots and lots of cash!
But I love my freedom, and I love my guns
I love skipping school and doing drugs
I know if we came together,
We could change the world!
So let's burn rubber towards a brighter day
Get on board with us or get out the way
We're in pursuit of liberty,
And lots and lots of cash!
But I love my freedom, and I love my guns
I love skipping school and doing drugs
I know if we came together,
We could change the world!
So let's burn rubber towards a brighter day
Get on board with us or get out the way
We're in pursuit of liberty,
And lots and lots of cash!

Uplifting, melancholy, mysterious, and ultimately satisfying, Identity Sequence is a rich album endored with love. I wasn't an EDM guy, but this album is a marvelous experience. Ben Anthony
The jazz here is pungent and evocative without being overly cryptic, covering a range of moods and standing well on its own even outside the context of the game they were inspired by. Ben Anthony
